We were approached by Bird and Wild Coffee to design a POS stand for them; it had to solve an issue of their retail bags falling over when on shop shelves. The key requirements were the use of natural or eco-friendly materials where possible, the inclusion of their key brand elements which were the bird logo and the foliage graphics found on their packaging, and a premium feel that complimented their brand.

Working with Ben from Bird and Wild, we developed an initial design of layered plywood that was modular to allow the same elements to be used for shelves, counter-top displays and shows where an airpot and drip tray could be incorporated for giving out samples. We experimented with halftone engraving for the brand elements, but after discussion with Ben we suggested UV-LED printing on birch plywood for the colour graphics which would be complimented by engraved text, as this would allow for the full range of colours and the painterly style they had used to be shown at its best.

After trialling two prototypes at a food and drink show we met up again with Ben, based on his feedback and after considering costs to produce the modular design it was decided that a simpler approach would be better; we would produce stands for the coffee bags with a backing plate featuring the brand elements and a space for a smaller plate which would feature awards Bird and Wild had won and notes about the origin and flavour of the different coffees.

With the design finalised, we cut and assembled a dozen of the main stands and a range of small stands for Bird and Wild to display at The Big Feastival.
